Brushing up on history and dates is a good idea whether your goal is to be a better informed citizen, win your local pub trivia, or not sound ignorant to the next veteran you chat up.

Gulf War Facts

  • The majority of troops were from the U.S., but 39 countries formed the allied coalition:

 Afghanistan, Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hungary, Italy, Kuwait, Morocco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Niger, Norway, Oman,Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

  • U.S. fatalities reached 383.
  • 100,000+ Iraqi soldiers died (although human rights groups claim this number is much higher).
  • The total cost of the war is estimated at 61 billion dollars. (Pinky finger to corner of mouth.)
